Image: Statue of Ceres – goddess of agriculture, fertility, birth and marriage – in the Piazza del Popolo, Rome.  Ceres is always depicted with a sheaf of corn – and in this case, also has a basket full of fruit to symbolise an abundant harvest and fertility.  Ceres is the daughter of Saturn and is usually draped in a flowing dress.
