On 21 April Rome celebrates its birthday!
Legend has it Rome was founded in 753BC by Romulus and Remus – the twins were the sons of the god Mars and were abandoned by the River Tiber. The story tells that they were found by a she-wolf who suckled them – and they decided to found a city on the site where she found them.
The Circus Maximus and the Colosseum are at the centre of the celebrations, which also include a parade.
Rome is not the only important birthday on 21 April – Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 90th birthday today. London, too, will be celebrating.
Happy Birthday! – Tanti Auguri!
