When Dr Neil McCarthy is divorced by the wife he still loves, things only get worse when he ends up in a cheap hotel in Rome, where nothing seems to work as it should…

The ROME ALONE series of novels begins with a trip to Rome by unhappy housewife Belinda Rightson, who fears her marriage to City trader Max Rightson is on the rocks. Staying at a five-star hotel on Via Vittorio Veneto, heart of la dolce vita, she is plagued by mysterious phone calls and finds herself unexpectedly unnerved by the handsome desk clerk.

From the other end of the country, Alzheimer’s researcher Dr Neil McCarthy also sets off to the Eternal City in an attempt to get over his divorce. Staying at Maria’s one-star Pensione, where things fall apart quite literally, he finds himself confronting the reasons why his marriage to Susan went wrong – and how he can get himself back on track after suffering an unexpected panic attack on the Spanish Steps, where a chance encounter is not all it seems.
