September is a special month in my heart: in September 2005 I went to Rome on a solo trip, staying at an hotel on Via Vittorio Veneto – and while the rain occasionally poured down outside, I had an idea about two strangers who plan solo trips to Rome to get over heartbreak.

The first draft was one of 100 winners of the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook’s New Novel Centenary Award in 2007 – but it took me another eight years to finish the book and publish it on Amazon Kindle in May 2015. There are now four novels in the series – and two more in the writing!

 

Sometimes life gets in the way of the process of creativity – but it is important to keep going, regardless of how long it takes. Whatever gets in the way of a literary goal – life, family, work, ill health, other people, disappointment, even plagiarism, which sadly does happen – just keep going if you can. Rome was not built in a day, after all.

There are now other characters I spend time with – most of them I met on my frequent trips to Rome, also. You never know who you will encounter in the Eternal City… but I find, in Rome, no one is quite who or what they seem…
