The latest news on coronavirus in Italy is that the country is now in lockdown – and borders in the EU are beginning to close to prevent further spread of the virus.
Rome is now in lockdown, with public gatherings banned and only essential travel permitted, with a travel permit necessary.
For those of us who visit Italy regularly and have friends living there, this is very sad news. Italy is possibly the most beautiful country in the world.

The UK is still in the containment phase of tackling the virus, but British Airways has now cancelled all flights to Italy – and we are now seeing a situation not seen since WWII, with borders closing, public gatherings banned and only essential travel permitted.
Coronavirus is now a worldwide problem – we are so used to having freedom of movement and enjoying each others’ countries that it seems inconceivable not to be able to hop on a plane and go wherever we want whenever we want.
I was last in Italy in January, when I visited Milan – but luckily did not contract the virus. I wish everyone a speedy recovery and condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
I hope Italy recovers soon – I will be among the first to hop on a plane and head for Rome!
